Welcome to Canada! If you already drive in your home country, you don't need to start from scratch. Ezee Driving School's newcomer driving lessons adapt your existing skills to Ontario's rules and road test standards, with patient, one-on-one coaching from MTO-certified instructors.

Many of our students are newcomers from around the world. Some have driven for 20 years and still feel overwhelmed by Toronto traffic, new signs and different rules. That's normal. Our newcomer program is designed to get you comfortable and road-test ready quickly.

Our newcomer program

Our newcomer program is an intensive course of defensive in-car training, often completed in about five days, that aims to get you ready for your road test fast. Every lesson is private and focused on the differences between how you drive now and what Ontario examiners expect.

What's different about driving in Ontario

Even experienced drivers lose marks on Ontario road tests for things that are normal elsewhere. We focus on:

  • Four-way stops: full stops and taking turns in the order cars arrive.
  • Right turns on red: when they're allowed, and the full stop that must come first.
  • School buses: stopping for flashing red lights, in both directions on most roads.
  • Pedestrian crossovers and school zones: when to stop and how to watch for children.
  • Shoulder checks: examiners want to see a clear head turn before every lane change and turn.
  • Speed and space: keeping to posted limits and leaving a safe following distance.
  • Winter driving: how to drive safely in snow and on icy roads, if you're new to Canadian winters.

Your path to an Ontario licence

Ontario uses a graduated licensing system: G1, then the G2 road test, then the G road test. Depending on your driving experience in your home country, you may be able to skip some waiting time. The rules depend on where you were licensed and the proof you have, so check with DriveTest or the Ministry of Transportation for your situation. We'll then help you prepare for whichever road test is next.
